AGM & Family Fun Day 2011
|
1st Maidenhead Sea Scouts held its 2011 BBQ, Family Fun Day and AGM at Longridge on Sunday 15th May. The afternoon kicked off with a family BBQ picnic and the AGM, closely followed by some fun on the water for all the family. Awards were given out to members of the group for achievements gained during the year, with presentations led by Nigel Bevan, the District Commissioner for Maidenhead. Afterwards, Mums and Dads, brothers and sisters joined in an afternoon of canoeing, kayaking or rowing.
All of this couldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the enthusiastic group of adult volunteers. Wayne Davie, Group Scout Leader for the group said of his role in scouting; “committed, keen and knowledgeable leaders make my role easy, but there is a lack of people willing to give a few hours a week – everyone has something to give back to the community and by interacting with the younger generation you find that the stories read in the papers are not all that goes on and the dreams and interests they have are similar to our own – by volunteering you can gain experience and qualifications in various activities and broaden you social circle!”
Currently 1st Maidenhead Sea Scouts currently have vacancies for leadership roles within the group. We’re looking for keen people aged 18 - 80, to share knowledge, and enhance the younger generation to reach their potential. Adults new to Scouting will discover a social life with a purpose – and the opportunity to gain fresh skills, especially Water Qualifications. Please contact: Wayne via gsl@1stcubs.org for details on how to get involved.

Christmas Fayre 2010 - Update
|
We had an amazing result with our Christmas Fayre fundraiser.
Over the 4 hours, we saw numbers of over 100 within the site at one point!
Santa's Grotto was a huge success, along with the Tree of Hope, Cake and Sweet Stalls and Book Stall. The biggest draw had to be the Toy Sale - where there were toys from as little as 25p!
Keeping people warm on the inside - our BBQ went down well - but the Hook A Duck raised little interest - perhaps the water was too cold!
At the end of the event we raised £750 - which enabled us to add to our Floor Fund!
Thank you to all who came along and helped!
